Wendy's Story
Life
I changed my name to Wendi when I was 13. I was Wendy Worth (Wirtshafter) and the oldest of the `big' family at Ranchito, with five us there between 1955 and 1967: Wendy, Bambi, Gary, Steve and Nikki. I went to Fulton Junior HIgh and then to Monroe HIgh, with a short time at Blair High in Pasadena, where we lived for six months. We left California in 1967 and went to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I went to the University of Tulsa doing pre-law from 1967 to 1968. I came to England in 1969 and have been living here ever since. I married Moojan Momen in 1971, had two children, Sedrhat (boy) in 1973 and Carmel (girl) in 1976, took a BSc Economics (1974) and then a PhD in International Relations at London School of Economics (1978), and have been working in publishing as an editor with a publisher in Oxford ever since. I served for 23 years on the national governing body of the Baha'is of the UK, have been four times around the world (we travel a lot!) and now have a grandson who will be 3 in January 2007 and a new grandchild due December 2006. ons director, my son in law a hospital doctor. I have written and published 11 books - Moojan has published about 50. I do a lot of volunteer work as well as my paid job. Since 1982 I have been a magistrate (that is, a justice of the peace). In the UK the whole judicial system is based on volunteers judges who try about 98% of criminal cases - ony very serious cases go up to the Crown Court. So you could say I put people in jail for a hobby! In 1990 I co-founded the European Baha'i Business Forum and have been chairman since then. I do a lot of work at the UN on advancing the status of women, sustainable development, habitat and human rights. My brothers and sisters have lived all over the world: Bambi in Portugal and Venezuela (and is now between Massachusetts and Miami), Gary in Swaziland and Zimbabwe (now living in New Mexico), Steve in Bophuthatswana (now living in South Africa), Nikki in Portugal (now living in Tennessee). My mom was in Israel for 17 years (and now in New Mexico). My dad is still in the Valley - I have two half sisters, twins Tina and Gina, and an adopted sister, Cheryl, all living in California.
